Gluten-Free Cheerios: Summary Report & Final Test Results

Gluten Free Watchdog tested 5 boxes of gluten-free Original Yellow Box Cheerios, 2 boxes of Honey Nut Cheerios, and 1 box of Multi-Grain Cheerios (these boxes are not part of the Cheerios recall). Some boxes of Original Yellow Box Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios tested by GFWD are contaminated with low levels of gluten. This contamination varies by box. Gluten contamination within each box of Cheerios is difficult to evenly distribute… The entire summary report including test results is available publicly for a limited amount of time. My son has celiac, and he has been sick on and off for 5 weeks. We tried 3 different boxes of cheerios. None were part of the recall and he still got sick. We don’t eat out and we are a completely gluten free household. Cheerios is cross contaminated in my opinion. What happened to the equipment where the gluten accident happened? Are they still using it?

Hi Katrina, Please contact FDA’s MedWatch (800) 332-1088. Choose option #4 to speak with a representative. You will be asked for information from the boxes (lot number, etc) so hang onto them. As for the equipment, you will have to ask General Mills directly about that issue.
