Testing of Fried Fish & Chips Prepared Without Gluten: 6 consumers ordered fried fish & chips prepared without gluten from the kid’s menu at Legal Sea Foods locations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Virginia, Washington DC, and Rhode Island. Consumers were provided with a standardized sample collection kit that included ordering and mailing instructions.

Survey of Legal Sea Foods restaurants/managers: An additional 4 consumers contacted an additional 10 restaurants and were advised to ask the following question: “Can you please let me know if the items designated on your menu as ‘can be prepared without gluten’ are appropriate for someone with celiac disease“ and “Does this include the fish & chips on the lunch/dinner/kid's menus?” Restaurants in the following locations were contacted: Philadelphia, Massachusetts, Virginia, and Washington DC.

The restaurant provides online menus by restaurant location. Options that “can be prepared without gluten” are marked with a symbol.

The menu also states: “Before placing your order, please inform your server if a person in your party has a food allergy.”

Response: I have consulted with our culinary team and they have advised me that: Items on our menu listed as “can be prepared without gluten” are also appropriate for guests with celiac disease and yes, this includes fish and chips on the children’s menu.
