Test Report Summary

Report Date: 08/05/2014

The sample tested below the lower limit of quantification for the assay used of 5 parts per million of gluten. Because this product is a "paper" good a test was also run on a spiked sample. This means that a certain amount of gluten was added to the paper plate sample and then tested for gluten. There was no recovery of the gluten added to the spiked sample using the sandwich R5 ELISA and cocktail extraction. This means that the sandwich R5 ELISA and the cocktail extraction solution did not work with this particular product.

The sample was also tested using the sandwich R5 ELISA and an extraction called the General Extraction Buffer (GEB). Among other things this extraction contains ethanol and fish gelatin. Fish gelatin (and skim milk powder) are often added to extraction solutions to release bound gluten (ie gluten that may be binding to a substance in the sample. This gluten may not be detected when the sample is tested). Using the GEB extraction solution the sample also tested below 5 ppm gluten. A spiked sample was also run using the GEB with 100% recovery of the added gluten.

Even though the sandwich R5 ELISA and cocktail extraction solution do not appear to work with this particular product, based on the results (including on the spiked sample) using the sandwich R5 ELISA and GEB extraction solution, this product appears to contain less than 5 ppm gluten.

NOTE: Complete test results are not provided for this product

Note: The R5 ELISA Mendez method was developed to be used when assessing the gluten content of food
